Notes

My first plates! They're a decent size and weight, though one of the plates turned out a lot better than the other. The better one was lighter, wider and had a lower rim, which speaks to the inconsistency I had in the trimming phase given they were thrown with the same amount of clay. I now have a nice vibe to try and use going forward when I make more.

In the end, these were really, really hard to glaze. The creme metal layer went on quite clumpy and took ages to dry. Before these, I had never had to wipe all my glaze off and start again. I did so twice on these plates.

But I think they came out quite well! I got the glaze effect by applying the creme metal unevenly with a paintbrush and then rubbing the glaze away here and there to create a more organic pattern. It did result in a few small unglazed spots, but that's fine. Next time, I will perhaps try and apply the creme metal with an airbrush.
